Favour for God’s People
(Isa. 61:4-11)
– this is an everlasting covenant (61:8)
1. Grace and justice in place of shame and dishonour.
– 61:4-9; grace and justice will be reconciled after the shame of the exile
2. The Gentiles will be called to salvation.
– 61:5-6, 9, 11; Rom.15:27
– Gentiles will not be conquered but converted
3. Clothed in salvation and righteousness.
– 61:10; Raymond Ortlund says that this is the Messiah but He confers blessings; Barry Webb says that it is firstly Isaiah himself; Allan Harman says that it is Zion personified.
