Peter Barnes | Revelation 22:14-16
SERMON NOTES
Washing Your Robes
(Revelation 22:14-16)
1. The blessing of salvation.
– 22:14; textual problem (NKJV ‘do His commandments’ or NIV ‘wash their robes’. Revelation speaks of both (12:17; 22:7; 7:14) but NIV is probably right for 22:14.
– present tense i.e. continual washing
2. The curse of ungodliness.
– 22:15, as in 21:8, 27
– for dog, see Deut.23:18; Matt.7:6; Phil.3:2
– sorcerers with drugs; the sexually immoral; murderers, idolaters, and those who love and practise lies
3. The King and Saviour is the God-man.
– 22:16; Greg Beale sees root and offspring as saying the same thing, but Jesus is both ancestor and offspring of David. Jesus is thus the one person in history with a divine and a human nature
-like Matt.22:41-46
– Rev.2:28; 5:5; 6:16; 22:1
