Peter Barnes | Revelation 20:1-10
SERMON NOTES
The Millennium
(Revelation 20:1-10)
– only part of Scripture that specifically refers to the millennium (1,000 years).
Premillennialism: Christ comes back to reign from Jerusalem for 1,000 years, then the final apostasy and the last judgment.
Postmillennialism: there will be a millennium of blessing, then Christ will return.
Amillennialism: Christ rules now in the millennium, and will come back at the end of this period.
1. Satan is bound.
– 20:1-3; Matt.12:28-29; Luke 10:17-20; John 12:31; Col.2:15; similar to Rev.12:7-12. This is true now, despite the ravages of Satan (1 Pet.5:8)
2. Christians reign in heaven now.
– 20:4-6; the throne is in heaven, not on earth; this is like Rev.6:9-10; Marcellus Kik says the first resurrection is conversion (see John 5:24; Eph.2:5), but it is the spiritual resurrection of the soul to heaven.
3. Satan will cause havoc near the end, but will be finally judged.
– 20:3, 7-9; Luke 18:8; 2 Thess.2:3, 6-10; Gog and Magog (Ezek.38-39) are symbolic (Rev.11:8); the city that God loves is not Jerusalem but the Church. Verse 10 – Satan is doomed.
